Duty Engineer Academias of Athens, Autograph Collection Department Engineering and Maintenance Reports to Engineering Leader Position Summary The Duty Engineer supports the safe and efficient operation of Academias of Athens by maintaining the hotel’s facilities, technical systems and equipment. The role covers preventive maintenance, repairs and prompt response to guest and operational requests, ensuring that guestrooms, public areas, food and beverage venues and back of house facilities meet the hotel’s quality and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Maintenance and Technical Operations Inspect, maintain and repair hotel equipment, appliances and building systems, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing and air conditioning installations, within the scope of training and authorisation. Complete scheduled preventive maintenance to minimise breakdowns and disruption to hotel operations. Identify faults, assess repair requirements and recommend equipment replacement where appropriate. Check and calibrate controls, gauges and meters as required. Locate and safely operate isolation points and shut off valves. Support maintenance requirements across the hotel, including NYX Rooftop Gastrobar, Plato and other operational areas. Refer specialist work to approved contractors and monitor progress as instructed. Guest and Departmental Support Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests, resolving issues courteously and with minimal disruption. Coordinate with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage and other departments to prioritise repairs. Keep relevant departments informed of outstanding faults, repair progress and equipment downtime. Respect guest privacy and follow hotel procedures when accessing occupied rooms. Provide a clear shift handover, including outstanding requests, equipment faults and follow up actions. Safety and Emergency Readiness Complete assigned safety inspections and checklists, including fire protection systems, fire pumps and emergency generators where installed and within the scope of authorisation. Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, accidents and injuries promptly. Support emergency response procedures and assist with evacuation or incident management as directed. Follow safe working procedures and use the required personal protective equipment. Store tools, chemicals and flammable materials safely. Complete required safety training and maintain relevant technical qualifications. Inventory and Maintenance Records Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance and outstanding work. Monitor spare parts, tools and maintenance supplies, requesting replenishment when required. Maintain inventory and purchase order records in accordance with hotel procedures. Keep workshops, plant rooms and maintenance storage areas clean, organised and secure. Use the hotel’s maintenance systems to record, track and close work requests. Team Support and Operational Improvement Support the Engineering Manager with team training, work allocation and supervision as required. Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external contractors. Identify practical opportunities to improve equipment reliability, energy efficiency, safety and operating costs. Maintain professional appearance, protect hotel assets and preserve confidential information. Undertake other reasonable duties relevant to the role, as assigned by hotel management. Preferred Qualifications and Experience Technical, trade or vocational qualification in electrical, mechanical, building services or a related discipline. At least two years of relevant maintenance experience, preferably within a hotel or hospitality environment. Supervisory experience preferred where the role includes responsibility for other team members. Relevant licences or certifications for the technical work undertaken, where required. Practical troubleshooting skills and the ability to prioritise tasks during a busy shift. Professional communication skills and a guest focused approach. Availability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays according to operational requirements. Working Requirements The role involves prolonged standing and walking, using stairs and ladders, bending, reaching and handling tools and equipment. Manual handling must be performed using safe methods and appropriate assistance or lifting equipment.
